FolderBuddy was created by Stéphane Lunati and Brian Dote. They believe strongly in their core mantra of user-centered, best-of-breed, focused applications and they hope you find FolderBuddy a handy must-have addition to your iPhone. Stéphane and Brian worked together at Apple Inc., releasing multiple versions of .Mac Webmail while working on the .Mac service. Stéphane and Brian are co-applicants on four patents pending from their work integrating .Mac with the iPhone back in 2007.
Stéphane has over 15 years experience building desktop & web applications. He started his career in the Mac OS X world when joining NeXT Software/Apple Inc. in 1997 in Paris France. He moved then to California to work at Apple Inc. in Cupertino for almost 8 years. He was managing the .Mac back end web engineering team and he was the lead engineer for many applications like Webmail, Bookmarks, Photocast integration, iPhone RSS integration, iPhone Web Gallery, etc. Stéphane lives in the Bay Area near San Francisco, CA with his wife and his two Belgium shepherd dogs.
Brian worked with Stéphane for 5 years at Apple Inc., managing the user interface engineering group. He’s been a web developer and designer for over 10 years and specializes in interface design. Brian was the lead user interface engineer on many .Mac projects, most notably the iPhone Web Gallery, Webmail, Motion, and iTunes. These days Brian lives in sunny Honolulu, Hawaii with his wife and kids, including his jack russell puppy Princess and his border collie puppy Jasmine. Brian does not work from the beach as most people believe (or so we’re told)!

Not all folders are editable. Some cannot be renamed, including INBOX, Trash, Junk, Drafts… Also, if a folder with the same name already exists, you won’t be allowed to use that name. Finally, you cannot rename an IMAP folder with a name containing certain special characters.
Deleting a folder will permanently remove the messages contained within it. This action cannot be undone.
Deleting a folder which has nested folders will only delete the folder you’ve selected, not all its nested folders. Likewise, only messages contained within the parent folder will be deleted, the messages in the nested folders will not be deleted.
You will need to contact your ISP or find out the IMAP settings required by your ISP. If you continue to have issues with an account, email help@folderbuddy.com
IMAP is the Internet Messaging Access Protocol that allows you to read your email from various locations because the incoming email is kept on your ISP’s mail server. This is advantageous because it allows you to access your email from different computers as if the messages were stored locally. Not all ISPs use IMAP, some use POP. FolderBuddy only supports IMAP.
Yes, your account password is only stored on your iPhone. Most IMAP providers like GMail, MobileMe, Yahoo, and AOL use a secure connection so your password is never sent in clear text over the network. If you are using another IMAP provider check with your provider if they support SSL/TLS. If your IMAP provider is using port 993 then most likely the connection will be secure.
You need to have either a wireless connection or data network (3G/EDGE) connectivity for FolderBuddy to work. If you get an error message about the network connectivity or if the last action done with FolderBuddy seems to take a long time please check your network and restart FolderBuddy.
FolderBuddy cannot create sub-folders for AOL or Yahoo accounts due to a limitation imposed by these providers. We hope that AOL and Yahoo will one day remove this restriction but until then, we can’t support sub-folders for these providers, sorry.
FolderBuddy makes it easy to delete either an account you’ve already configured or a folder in your list of folders. In order to delete an account you need to be in the “Settings” screen. Simply swipe on the corresponding row from left to right, just as you would in other iPhone apps. If you made a mistake and want to cancel, just swipe in the other direction. Once the red “delete” button appears, click to delete. It’s that easy. Keep in mind that the delete operations cannot be undone. There is also a “Delete account” button when viewing account details for a given account.
FolderBuddy makes it easy, simply shake your iPhone when viewing an account’s folder list and it’ll refresh. Cool huh?
FolderBuddy can access your Microsoft Exchange server if your administrator setup your Exchange server with the IMAP4 service enabled. If the IMAP4 service is enabled, use the “Other” account type and enter the configuration information to complete the account setup.
In order to improve the FolderBuddy user experience and application performance we automatically collect usage statistics. This data is aggregated and sent to a remote server. Usage statistics are collected in an anonymous way and are never re-distributed, shared, or sold.
You might have issues where you sync your IMAP mail account settings from your computer. If all your IMAP folders on your computer are shown as subfolders of your Inbox folder, this might work incorrectly on the iPhone or iPod Touch.
